PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Faygo Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jhon Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Faygo Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jhon Carter!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in but Carter avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Carter throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Carter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jones controlling the action here.
Carter gets full guard.
Carter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Carter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jones is stalling in the full guard.
Carter trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Carter shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Carter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carter tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carter to the ground. Carter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Faygo Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carter's waist but Carter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Carter lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Jones backs up against the cage.
Carter shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily.
Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Carter is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Carter circles away and we're back to standing.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown but Carter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jones's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Carter is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
Jones displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Carter throws out the jab.
Jones fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carter avoids it really well and circles away.
Jones tries for a takedown but Carter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Jones shoots in and drives through. Carter sprawls well.
Jones misses with a double jab

and Carter decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jones's guard.
Jones is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Carter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Jones has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Carter off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Carter lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Jones stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jones wants it to stay on the feet.
Jones shoots in and drives through. Carter sprawls well.
Jones fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carter avoids it really well and circles away.
Carter shoots in looking for a takedown. Jones tries to sprawl out of it but Carter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jones manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones.
Jones wants to clinch but Carter slips to the side
and Carter counters with a left and a right that stings Jones.

Carter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones tries to kick Carter off but Carter keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Carter thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Carter wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.

Jones slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Jones uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jones lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carter has a takedown stuffed.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

A close round but Jhon Carter will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Carter tried to score with a low kick but Jones checks it.

Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jones drops down looking for an ankle pick but Carter pulls his leg out and moves away.
Carter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.

Carter scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Faygo Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Carter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jones.

Carter wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Carter leaves Jones with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Carter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.
Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Carter is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Carter circles away and we're back to standing.

Jones gets tackled into the cage by Carter. Carter maintains the clinch.
Jones is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Carter has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Jones pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carter tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Carter gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jones.
Jones wants a takedown.
Jones is looking to take this one to the mat.
Carter is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Carter wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Jones drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Carter gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Carter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones.

Jones wants to take the fight to the mat but Carter manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones tries to break the clinch but Carter is controlling the position.

Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Carter gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Jhon Carter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Carter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jones's guard.
Jones seems keen to control Carter's posture.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jhon Carter hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Jones slaps away a takedown attempt from Carter, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Carter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Jones thows a huge punch but Carter dodges it nicely.

Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carter for as long as he can get away with.
Faygo Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jhon Carter is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Jhon Carter.
Well Carter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
