PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Batista (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mick Dolan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dolan has chosen Shipping Up to Boston as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Fernando Batista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mick Dolan!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Richard Clark and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dolan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Dolan stuffs the takedown attempt from Batista. Batista gets slowly back to his feet.
Batista fails with a takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Batista.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fernando Batista. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Batista falls off balance throwing a combination
and Dolan counters with a nice body shot.

letting Dolan counter with a right hand.
Dolan throws a shot to the body.

Batista closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dolan is trying to get back to half guard.
Dolan sneaks back into half guard.
Dolan works his way to full guard. Good work.

Dolan wants to sweep but no luck.

Dolan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Batista doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Batista manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Batista sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dolan's guard.
Batista is breathing heavily.
Dolan wants to improve his position but Batista is controlling well.

Batista is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dolan defends it well.
Dolan gets back to full guard.

Dolan is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Batista has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Dolan manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Batista regains half guard.
Batista moves into full guard.
Dolan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Batista looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Batista looking for a guillotine here but Dolan defends easily.
Dolan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Batista swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Batista manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Batista is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Batista is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Dolan scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Batista misses with a takedown attempt
and Dolan counters with a series of strikes. Batista will be more careful next time no doubt.
Batista takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

and Dolan counters with a left to the body.

and Dolan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Fernando Batista seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dolan stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Batista takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Dolan connects with a looping right hand.

Mick Dolan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Batista fails with the takedown
and Dolan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Batista doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Dolan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Batista tries for a takedown but Dolan circles away easily
and Dolan counters with a thumping low kick.

Batista closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dolan is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Batista is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Dolan looks calm but he's in trouble here. Batista gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Dolan is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Batista lets go of the hold and Dolan can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Fernando Batista!
