PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Danny Ochoa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hakuin Ekaku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ochoa comes into the arena with Ice Cube - I Rep That West blaring out of the sound system. Ekaku comes into a darkened arena with his song building. IV kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danny Ochoa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hakuin Ekaku!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ochoa blocks a low kick nicely.
Hakuin Ekaku seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ochoa keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ekaku connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Ekaku throws a looping overhand right but Ochoa ducks down to avoid it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ochoa digs a right hand into Ekaku's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Ekaku's gas tank.

Ekaku wants to get back to his feet but Ochoa is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Ekaku bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ochoa's guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ekaku feints and then cracks Ochoa's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ochoa down.

Ochoa throws a lazy right hand but Ekaku sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Ekaku closes the distance and pushes Ochoa back into the cage.

Ekaku has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ochoa regains guard immediately.

Ekaku got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ochoa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ekaku has managed to get both his arms back between Ochoa's legs - danger averted.

Hakuin Ekaku showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
