PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Corporal Sanders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanders comes to the cage accompanied by "Indestructible" by Disturbed. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John Paul was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Corporal Sanders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Paul!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, John Kavanagh and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanders changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Paul tries to avoid it but Sanders manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Paul to the ground. Paul escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sanders fails with the takedown.
Sanders wants to clinch up but Paul keeps it at a distance.
Paul should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Paul gets caught flat footed, as Sanders shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sanders sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Paul's guard.
Paul is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanders throwing shots but Paul is blocking nicely.
Sanders passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Paul!
Sanders tries to control but Paul wriggling away.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Paul has eaten all the pies!
Paul really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

BOOM! Sanders connects with a massive shot to the dome!


Paul is rocked!
Sanders throws some wild stikes that Paul manages to avoid easily.
Paul is still in real trouble! Can Sanders finish him?
Paul blocking the ground and pound.
Paul seems to have recovered his senses.

Sanders swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Paul is now in Sanders's guard. A big mistake from Sanders there, giving up the dominant position!

Paul really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sanders. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Paul landing some decent shots from guard.
Sanders has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sanders can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Paul controls the pace.
Paul working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sanders's head.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
No luck for Sanders with that takedown attempt.

Sanders tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Paul paws at him with a jab and circles away.

You can see the frustration on Paul's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sanders has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Sanders shoots in and drives through. Paul sprawls well.
Sanders is breathing heavily.

Paul feints and as Sanders raises his hands in defense, Paul changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Paul tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanders is retaining full guard.
Sanders looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Paul landing with the ground and pound.
Paul slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Paul slips nicely into half guard.
Paul drops an elbow to the side of Sanders's head.
Paul winds up and cracks Sanders with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sanders is staying active underneath Paul, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Paul looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corporal Sanders dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sanders is keen to just control but Paul is a slippery customer.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Paul decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sanders's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Paul connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Sanders some visible discomfort.
Paul works to advance to full mount. Sanders defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Paul is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Paul lands a heavy elbow.
John Paul has got the better of the ground game so far.
Paul lands a big shot there that rocks Sanders but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Paul postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sanders looks a forlorn figure.
Sanders is desperately trying to improve his position but Paul has a good base and remains in mount.
Sanders tries to hold on but Paul pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Paul showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Sanders's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

John Paul comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Paul has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
