PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charles Raines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and jp Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that jp Hill was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charles Raines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, jp Hill!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hill shoots in for a takedown but Raines shows good takedown defense.
Raines changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hill tries to avoid it but Raines manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hill to the ground. Hill escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Raines has taken the fight to the clinch.

Raines breaks from the clinch.
Raines throws a body kick that misses.
Hill fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Raines avoids it really well and circles away.
No luck for Hill with that takedown attempt.
Charles Raines has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of jp Hill.

and Hill counters with a single leg into guard. Raines didn't expect that.

Raines fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hill shoots in looking for a takedown but Raines manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hill's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Hill leaves Raines with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hill looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Hill jumps guard but Raines stands there with Hill around his waist. Hill gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Raines's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Hill throws a low kick, looking for Raines's leg but Raines calmly moves out of range.

Raines drives through and clinches with Hill against the cage.

Raines manages to pull guard.
Hill trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Raines seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Raines tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Raines managing to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Raines throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Hill trying to control but Raines is working from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hill shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Raines pinned against the cage. Raines gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hill looks gassed!
Raines looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hill is fending him off so far but Raines persists. Nope, Hill circles away and we're back to standing.

Raines clinches up with Hill and pushes him back against the cage.

Raines gets control of Hill's arms and successfully pulls guard. Raines will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Hill won't allow Raines to sweep him here.
Hill wants to control from the top but Raines keeps moving.

Hill avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Raines has his feet on Hill's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Raines keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Raines is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hill is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

We're going to have a standup here because Charles Raines wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Hill throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Raines's waist but Raines gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hill off to one side.

Raines moves into range and clinches up with Hill.

Hill shoots in and drives through. Raines sprawls well.
Hill is breathing heavily.

Raines throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hill stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Hill misses with a takedown attempt - Raines sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hill has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
