Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe King!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
King throws a head kick that misses.
Shields throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Shields has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from King.
Shields lands with a nice body punch.
King steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Shields.
King throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shields misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Shields with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling King to score with a decent uppercut.
Shields throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
A looping hook to the body misses from King. Shields does a little dance to reset his feet.

Shields throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for King because Shields loaded up on that one.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
King keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Shields is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. King can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

King lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Joe King seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Shields checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
King lands with an overhand left.

Shields fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt King.
King tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
King has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Shields finds it's way round the side to connect with King's head.
King looks to score with a jab to the body but Shields is just out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
King thows a body shot but no joy.

Shields shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Shields throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Shields controlling the pace.
Shields tries to pass the half guard into mount. King knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Shields is working hard here to advance position.

Shields not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Shields is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Shields is keen to just control but King is a slippery customer.
King wants to control but Shields is keeping busy.
King keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

King is refusing to be controlled, as Shields sits in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shields is looking for a kimura but King is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shields to get the leverage.
David Shields overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
King is doing well to control the position and prevent Shields from advancing to side control.
Shields is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and King reverses the position - he's now on top in Shields's guard.

King got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shields has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, King has managed to get both his arms back between Shields's legs - danger averted.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shields swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shields lands a leg kick that knocks King off balance momentarily.
Shields shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
King is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Shields rather than just go for the knockout.
King uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Shields has time to react.
King slips a straight right by Shields.
Shields wants to slow King down by chopping away at his legs.

King has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Shields.
Shields lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

King loads up on a big right hand but Shields slips the punch.
Shields throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Shields throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. King tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Shields is in King's guard.
Shields postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King keeping moving, preventing Shields from controlling successfully.
King manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Shields is wriggling around trying to escape.

King trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Shields is working to get back to half guard.
Joe King has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Shields has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
King has the hooks in. Shields is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
I would not like to be Shields right now.

Shields looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Shields breaks King's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of David Shields.

Shields throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
King walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Shields checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
King takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A punch lands to the side of Shields 's head but he takes it in his stride.

And that's the end of the fight!
David Shields showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shields, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
