PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Minoru Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Suzuki kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Sunrise. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Minoru Suzuki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matt Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Suzuki.
Hawk misses with a two punch combination.
Hawk throws a body punch but Suzuki moves out of range.
Suzuki is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hawk.
Matt Hawk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hawk looks to land a combination. Suzuki sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Horrible takedown by Suzuki or perhaps it was just good defense by Hawk which made him look bad.
Suzuki fails in his attempt to clinch.

Suzuki shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Suzuki was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Suzuki is trying to take his opponent's back.

Suzuki goes for an armbar but Hawk turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Hawk.

Hawk must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Suzuki is trying to control the position but Hawk postures up.
Suzuki is trying to hold Hawk in close to prevent damage but Hawk has managed to pass into half guard.
It looks like Hawk is going to stand back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Suzuki is looking to improve his position.
Suzuki makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Suzuki.

Suzuki throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hawk uses it to pass to side control.
Hawk wants to stand but Suzuki is controlling his arm.

Suzuki tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Hawk tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Suzuki gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Suzuki is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Hawk pulls his head out easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Suzuki tries to get to full guard but Hawk has control of the leg.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hawk misses with a hook.
No luck for Suzuki with that takedown attempt.
Suzuki shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Hawk rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Suzuki moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Suzuki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Suzuki tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Suzuki is breathing heavily.
Suzuki is staying tight to Hawk's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Suzuki working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Hawk tries to escape but Suzuki is in control.
Suzuki is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Hawk is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Suzuki has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hawk prevents Suzuki from moving into mount.
Suzuki is working hard here to advance position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hawk stuffs the takedown attempt from Suzuki. Suzuki gets slowly back to his feet.
Suzuki is looking to clinch.
Hawk throws a combination. Suzuki tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Suzuki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hawk throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Hawk paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Suzuki tries for a takedown but Hawk sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hawk throws a hook but Suzuki blocks it.
Suzuki shoots in looking for a takedown. Hawk tries to sprawl out of it but Suzuki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Hawk manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No joy there for Hawk, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Hawk dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Suzuki takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Hawk lands a left and a right that sends Suzuki crashing to the canvas! Hawk dives into mount looking to finish!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hawk throws a hook but Suzuki avoids it easily.
Minoru Suzuki is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hawk pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Suzuki slips a jab and a cross from Hawk.

Suzuki shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Suzuki showed some decent athleticism there.
Suzuki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hawk does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Suzuki passes to full mount!
Suzuki tries to control but Hawk wriggling away.
Suzuki looking to take Hawk's back but Hawk rolls and after a scramble, Hawk ends up on top in guard. Nice escape there from Hawk to escape a tricky position.

Matt Hawk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hawk has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
