PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shinya Aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Corcoran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Corcoran has chosen Lonely Boy as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinya Aoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dean Corcoran!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aoki feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Aoki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Corcoran swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Corcoran pushes Aoki off and scrambles back to his feet.

Corcoran takes the fight into the clinch.
Aoki blocks an elbow strike.
Aoki managing to block the knees to the body from Corcoran.
Aoki is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Corcoran gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Corcoran misses with a knee to the head.
Corcoran lands an elbow just above Aoki 's eye.

Corcoran breaks the clinch.
Aoki throws a nice head kick!

Corcoran has managed to clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Aoki is trying to maintain a safe position but Corcoran gets an underhook and turns Aoki into the cage.

The fight stays on the outside here - Corcoran looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Horrible takedown by Aoki or perhaps it was just good defense by Corcoran which made him look bad.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Corcoran gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Corcoran closes the distance but Aoki moves to the side
and Aoki counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Corcoran throws a right hand that Aoki ducks under and follows up with a left that Aoki also avoids with ease.
Aoki cracks Corcoran with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Corcoran tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Aoki paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Aoki bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Corcoran's head.

and Aoki counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Aoki tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Aoki connects with a leg kick. Corcoran looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Aoki jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Aoki. Corcoran shrugs it off though.
Aoki fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Corcoran has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Corcoran on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Aoki. Aoki obviously looking to wear him down.

The fighters circle momentarily. Aoki darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Corcoran avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Corcoran is looking to clinch but Aoki is avoiding it.
Dean Corcoran seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Aoki shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Corcoran's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Aoki thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Aoki drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Aoki jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Corcoran pushes Aoki off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Aoki gets tackled into the cage by Corcoran. Corcoran maintains the clinch.
Aoki on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Corcoran lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Corcoran lands a nice uppercut.

Corcoran stops a takedown attempt from Aoki.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Corcoran obliges.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Corcoran turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Corcoran manages to end up in side control.
Aoki sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Corcoran postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Aoki to stand up.
Aoki connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Corcoran fails in his attempt to clinch.
Corcoran tries to clinch there but Aoki circles away.
Corcoran wants to clinch.
Aoki lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Aoki has a takedown stuffed.

Aoki throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Corcoran was covering up waiting for the punch and Aoki finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Corcoran wants to stand and escape but Aoki is having none of it.
Corcoran looks gassed!

Aoki is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Corcoran bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Aoki's guard.

Aoki is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Corcoran is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Aoki has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Corcoran is looking to defend but Aoki has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Corcoran! Aoki pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Corcoran taps out and this one is all over!

A relieved looking Shinya Aoki thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
