PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Coming Home. Wood has chosen one hitta quitta as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcus Wood!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nice takedown defense from Wood. No joy for Jones on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fighters circling - Jones throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jones cracks Wood with an open hand slap.
Wood slips a straight right by Jones.
Jones misses with a wild body shot.
Wood throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
Wood on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Jones throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Some wild striking there from Wood.
Wood jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jones throws a right and a left that Wood avoids nicely.
Jones tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Wood is able to avoid easily.
Wood tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Jones connects with a crisp jab.
Wood looks to land a right hand but Jones moved out of range.
Jones connects with a single shot there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wood throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.
Jones lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Wood tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wood manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Wood stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wood wants it to stay on the feet.
Jones keeps the fight on the outside.
A nice inside leg kick there by Wood. That's going to slow Jones down.
Wood gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
No joy there for Wood, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Wood pushes Jones up against the cage in a clinch.
Wood is pressed up against the cage. Jones has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Wood down to the mat. Wood avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Wood shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
No luck for Jones with that takedown attempt.
Jones is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wood misses with a body shot.
Wood explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jones looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Marcus Wood is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jones loads up on a big right hand but Wood slips the punch.
Jones moves forwards but Wood connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Wood swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Wood swinging wildly here.
Nice defenses there by Wood.
A combination from Wood does no damage.
Jones misses with a low kick.
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Jones connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A jab from Jones does it's job there.


Wood is rocked!
Jones waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Wood.
Wood is still on wobbly legs! Can Jones finish him?
Jones misses with a straight right.
Wood doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones lands with a big right hook that stumbles Wood - he's out on his feet here! Jones follows up with another monster hook that separates Wood from consciousness! Wood falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Jones stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jon Jones!
Jon Jones decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
