PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rex Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steven Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rex Banks!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lewis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Banks moves into the clinch.
Banks jumps guard but Lewis stands there with Banks around his waist. Banks gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Banks manages to pull guard.
Lewis stands up over Banks, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Lewis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Banks is trying to control the position but Lewis postures up.
Lewis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Banks is controlling Lewis's posture.
Banks utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Lewis throws a strike but Banks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Banks avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lewis looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Banks has picked Lewis up and slammed him! Lewis can't keep hold of the triangle and Banks manages to pass to side control!
Lewis tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Banks presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Lewis can't escape the position.
Lewis is working hard here to advance position.

Banks get's back to his feet.
Banks scores with a jab to the body.

Banks fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lewis, pushing him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lewis has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Banks is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Lewis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Banks tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Banks drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lewis pulls his leg out and moves away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Banks gets caught flat footed, as Lewis shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Lewis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Banks works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Lewisis looking to pass into half guard but Banks pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Banks is in guard.

Lewis isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Banks stacks Lewis on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Banks!
Lewis is trying to get back to half guard.
Lewis is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Banks looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
You can see the frustration on Lewis's face as Banks controls the position.
Lewis is looking to regain half guard here but Banks keeps moving and retains side control.
Lewis manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Banks keeping control of the position.
Banks wants to control but Lewis is keeping busy.
Lewis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Lewis seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Banks is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Steven Lewis!
