The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rodriguez looks to land a body kick but Johnson moved away.
Rodriguez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rodriguez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Johnson takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Rodriguez misses with an attempted mid kick.
Rodriguez avoids a kick to the body.
Rodriguez throws a head kick that half lands.

Johnson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Rodriguez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Johnson walks away with a smile on his face. Rodriguez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rodriguez throws a big shot that misses.

Johnson closes the distance and pushes Rodriguez back into the cage.
Johnson is trying to break the clinch but Rodriguez has him pressed against the cage.
Johnson wants a takedown.
Rodriguez stops a takedown attempt from Johnson.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tristan Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Johnson tries for a takedown but Rodriguez manages to get underhooks.

Johnson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rodriguez to keep the fight standing.
Johnson can't break the clinch.
Rodriguez stops a takedown attempt from Johnson.

Rodriguez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt
and Rodriguez counters with a head kick. That will keep Johnson thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Johnson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rodriguez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
The crowd cheers as Rodriguez lands an impressive looking overhand right. Johnson doesn't seem phased though.
Rodriguez misses with a head kick.
Rodriguez tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rodriguez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Johnson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Johnson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Johnson drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rodriguez is trying to keep Johnson in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rodriguez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Johnson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rodriguez has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Johnson doesn't defend quickly enough and Rodriguez has managed to lock this one up! Can Johnson escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Rodriguez on a fantastic submission victory.
