The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tanikawa manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bhreithiun on his heels. He'll look to pass Bhreithiun's guard now, I'm sure.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Tanikawa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Tanikawa throws a big right hand that misses.
Tanikawa connects with a couple of short punches.
Bhreithiun looking to control.
Tanikawa is looking to work some ground and pound but Bhreithiun has wrist control.

Bhreithiun is trying to control the position but Tanikawa postures up.

Tanikawa postures up in Bhreithiun's guard and throws a big left but Bhreithiun blocks it.
Tanikawa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
You can see the frustration on Bhreithiun's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Bhreithiun is not content to let Tanikawa control the position.
Tanikawa lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tanikawa works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Tanikawa unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Bhreithiun wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Tanikawa celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
