The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hills with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Saunders to score with a decent uppercut.
Saunders moves out of range as Hills strikes.

Saunders gets tackled into the cage by Hills. Hills maintains the clinch.

Saunders gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Hills tries to get to full guard but Saunders has control of the leg.
Saunders looks to land a strike but Hills avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Hills doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Saunders postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Saunders knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hills on the ground.
Saunders lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Saunders throws an elbow that misses. Hills uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Saunders's guard. Nice move by Hills!

Hills is pushing down on Saunders's leg trying to pass to half guard. Saunders is fighting to maintain full guard but Hills has managed to sneak the leg through.
Saunders has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hills is working away from the top position though.
Hills prevents Saunders from improving his position.
Saunders won't allow Hills to pass to mount.

Saunders is trying to control but can't.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Joe Saunders.
Hills moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

It looks like Sonny Hills has been cut.
Saunders ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Sonny Hills seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hills scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Hills fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Saunders checks a leg kick.
A punch lands to the side of Hills 's head but he takes it in his stride.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Saunders throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hills sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Saunders swings for the body but Hills moves out of range.
Saunders swats away the attempt to clinch by Hills.
Saunders scores with a hook.
Hills tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Saunders counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Saunders throws out a powerful jab.
Saunders defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hills.
Hills uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Saunders.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Saunders tries to hold on but Hills postures up.
Hills trying to control but he's not successful this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hills seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Saunders is holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Saunders shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hills eats them both and turns towards Saunders to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Saunders is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Joe Saunders has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sonny Hills.
Saunders shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hills pinned against the cage. Hills gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Saunders counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Hills drops his hands for a split second and Saunders immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Hills face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Saunders follows up with a right hand that knocks Hills into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!
