PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Furio Soprano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diablo Drear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Furio Soprano has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Furio Soprano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diablo Drear!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drear misses with a jab, cross combination.

Soprano gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Drear pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Soprano fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Drear sprawls well initially but Soprano persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Soprano prevents Drear from improving his position.

Drear looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Soprano could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Drear tries to roll over but Soprano keeps him under control.
Soprano is looking to take a break and control but Drear is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Drear is trying to maintain the position but Soprano is very close to passing his half guard.
Drear misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Soprano wants to take a breather but Drear is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Furio Soprano just wasn't active enough.
Drear throws a nice looking combination but Soprano bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Drear tries to close the distance and clinch but Soprano swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Drear keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Soprano has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Soprano is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Drear really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Soprano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Soprano tries to control but Drear wriggling away.

Drear is squirming around, avoiding Soprano's attempts to control the action.
Drear is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Soprano breaks from Drear's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Soprano is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Soprano manages to capitalize on a mistake by Drear to take his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Drear tries to roll but Soprano sticks to his back.
Soprano tries to get the hooks in deep but Drear pushed the leg off.
I really don't envy Drear right now.
Drear is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Soprano gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Soprano will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Soprano is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Drear. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Drear trying to control the hands but Soprano won't let him.
Soprano is trying to stick to Drear's back but Drear is turning into Soprano. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Soprano's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Drear.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Soprano looking for a guillotine here but Drear defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Drear gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Soprano wanted to stand there but Drear had control of the position.

Drear is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Drear tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Soprano pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Drear is keeping the position for now.

Drear looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Soprano trying to control but Drear is working from the bottom.
Drear wants to sweep but no luck.
Drear throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Drear looking to hit a scissor sweep but Soprano is one step ahead there.
Soprano landing with the ground and pound.

Drear looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Soprano passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Soprano is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Drear doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Soprano.
Drear is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Drear makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Drear.
Drear wants to sweep here but Soprano controlling him for the moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Drear can do anything to dispel that myth.

Drear escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Soprano gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Drear is looking for a triangle but Soprano pushes his legs off easily.

Drear looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Soprano trying to control but Drear is working from the bottom.
Drear looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Drear keeping moving, preventing Soprano from controlling successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Furio Soprano has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Soprano throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Drear tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Soprano is in Drear's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Furio Soprano will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Soprano clinches up with Drear and pushes him back against the cage.

Drear breaks the clinch.

Soprano closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Drear looking for a sweep but Soprano has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Drear working to try and regain half guard.
Soprano trying to control but Drear is having none of it.
Soprano is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Drear can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Drear is trying desperately to improve position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Drear gets back to half guard.
Drear is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Drear throws strikes from the bottom but it's allowed Soprano to grab hold of an arm and go for an armbar! It's tiiiiiiiiight! Drear is forced to tap! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Furio Soprano!
