PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dat Sik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takanori Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takanori Gomi!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sik bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gomi takes a swing at Sik's ribcage but misses.
Gomi thows a left - swing and a miss!
An inside leg kick lands from Sik.
Gomi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sik's waist but Sik gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gomi off to one side.
Gomi tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Sik counters with a nice leg kick.
Gomi throws a head kick that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sik lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Sik dips to his left and cracks Gomi with an uppercut!

Sik tries to clinch up but Gomi circles away and keeps his distance.
Sik works Gomi's body with a nice hook.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gomi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Sik counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Gomi paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Sik fails to land with a series of punches.

Sik has managed to clinch.
Gomi wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sik scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Sik lands with a short shot to the head.
Sik lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Sik lands a hook to the side of the head.
Sik pushes Gomi back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Gomi is looking for a takedown.
Gomi is trying to break the clinch but Sik has him pressed against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Sik.
Gomi wants to get back to striking at distance but Sik won't allow it.

Sik makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Gomi is looking to break free of the clinch but Sik has double underhooks.

Sik throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Gomi looks gassed!
Sik scores with a nice hook to the head.
Sik lands a right hand that snaps the head of Gomi backwards.
Sik lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Sik throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gomis head.
Sik lands a hook to the side of the head.
Gomi wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sik has him pressed against the cage.
Sik scores with a shoulder strike.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gomi has Sik pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sik manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Dat Sik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takanori Gomi.
A frustrated look appears on Gomi's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Sik lands a knee to the head.

It looks like Takanori Gomi has been cut.
Sik has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Gomi - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Sik, and another! Gomi is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Dat Sik!
