PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Christiansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Scully (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matthew Christiansen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dan Scully!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Illya Tyunina and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Christiansen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Christiansen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Scully tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Christiansen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Christiansen working the ground and pound from side control.
Christiansen trying to control the action but Scully is working from the bottom.
Scully is trying to control Christiansen's posture but Christiansen avoids it.
Scully is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Christiansen controls the position.
Christiansen misses with the ground and pound.
Christiansen is staying tight to Scully's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Scully tries to buck Christiansen off but Christiansen is having none of it.

Christiansen wants to control but Scully is keeping him busy.
Christiansen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Scully on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Christiansen.
Scully dodges the ground and pound from Christiansen.
Scully manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Scully is trying to control the action in half guard but Christiansen is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Scully seems to be looking for submissions.
Scully stops Christiansen from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Christiansen is breathing heavily.

Scully is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Christiansen has managed to free his arm - good work.
Christiansen wants to get back to full guard.

Christiansen is trying to stand.
Scully thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Christiansen's head.
Christiansen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Christiansen doesn't manage to clinch there - Scully circles away.
Christiansen shoots in looking for a takedown. Scully tries to sprawl out of it but Christiansen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Scully manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Scully fails with the takedown

and Christiansen counters with a shoot takedown. Scully fights it but they end up in guard.
Scully manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Christiansen tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Christiansen tries to hold on but Scully postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Christiansen tries to reverse the position but Scully maintains control.
Christiansen wants to hold on but Scully pushes him away.

Scully jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Christiansen is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Christiansen and Scully has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Christiansen throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Christiansen stops Scully from passing to mount.
Christiansen is not content to let Scully control the position.

Scully decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Scully tries to clinch up but Christiansen circles away and keeps his distance.

Christiansen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Scully's guard.
Scully tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Scully keeping moving, preventing Christiansen from controlling successfully.

Scully is looking for a triangle but Christiansen pushes his legs off easily.
Christiansen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Christiansen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Scully will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew Christiansen dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Christiansen shoots for a takedown but Scully saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Christiansen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Scully won't be happy with that.
Scully sneaks back into half guard.
Scully has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Christiansen is working away from the top position though.

Scully looking for submissions off his back.
Scully makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Scully.
Christiansen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Scully striking off his back but it's not causing Christiansen any problems.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Scully throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Christiansen sitting in guard here, content to control.
Matthew Christiansen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Scully is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Christiansen lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Scully tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Christiansen counters with a takedown into side control.

A control attempt from Scully but he's now mounted!
Scully really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Christiansen connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Scully tries to hold on but Christiansen pushes him away.
Christiansen looking to control but Scully is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Scully is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Christiansen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Christiansen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Scully is surviving well by controlling Christiansen's body position as best he can.

Scully wants to control but Christiansen is having none of it.

Christiansen scores with a spinning back kick!
Scully tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Christiansen swivels and escapes.
Matthew Christiansen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Scully.

Christiansen moves into the clinch successfully.
Christiansen wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Scully has him pressed against the cage.

Scully breaks the clinch.
Scully misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Scully tries for a takedown but Christiansen circles away easily

and Christiansen counters with a single leg into guard. Scully didn't expect that.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Scully is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Christiansen rolls with it to try and escape but Scully cranks on the arm and Christiansen is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
