The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martel pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Martel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Martel pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Herrera is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martel is working hard here to advance position.
Martel advances position into side control!

Martel advances nicely into full mount.

Martel looking for a guillotine from mount but Herrera is having none of it.
Martel with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Martel has hold of Herrera's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Herrera manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Herrera defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Martel.

Martel is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Herrera is surviving well by controlling Martel's body position as best he can.
Martel is breathing heavily.
Herrera working to try and regain half guard.
Herrera wants to hold on but Martel pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Herrera is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Martel is staying active.
Martel prevents Herrera from getting the reversal.
Herrera tries to lock up and control but Martel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Martel is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Herrera has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Herrera!
Herrera stays in close to Martel's body and controls the position.
Martel has momentary wrist control but Herrera slips an elbow through the middle.

Martel looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Martel is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Herrera rolls with it to try and escape but Martel cranks on the arm and Herrera is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
