PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wandy Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacco Fresco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker's entrance music is Fight Night. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying Fresco's choice of entrance music: Nas; New York State of mind. Wandy Walker has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wandy Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacco Fresco!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fresco misses the shot to the body.
Walker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fresco circles away.
Walker misses with a takedown attempt - Fresco sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Walker gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Fresco to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Fresco gets to his feet - Walker follows without any prompting.
Jacco Fresco seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fresco misses the shot to the body.

Fresco throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Walker was covering up waiting for the punch and Fresco finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fresco wants to stand but Walker has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Fresco wants to stand and escape but instead Walker has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Walker slips nicely into half guard.
Fresco controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Walker is looking to stall here but Fresco recovers full guard.
Fresco wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Walker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fresco swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
No joy there for Fresco, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Walker enables Fresco to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Walker manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Walker is looking to stand up but Fresco isn't so interested in that idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Walker kicks Fresco off and gets to his feet.
Fresco lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Walker at a distance.

Fresco fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Walker to the ground. Fresco is now in Walker's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fresco tries to stand but Walker is controlling from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Walker wants to stand and escape but Fresco is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacco Fresco dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Fresco misses with a body shot

and Walker counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Walker postures up in Fresco's guard and throws a big left but Fresco blocks it.
Walker slips nicely into half guard.
Fresco slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Walker wants to pass the guard but Fresco is keeping the position.

Walker misses with a head shot.

Fresco is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Walker sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Walker misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Walker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fresco is in a horrible position here. Walker smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Fresco stuffs the takedown attempt from Walker. Walker gets slowly back to his feet.
Walker shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fresco sprawls well. Fresco wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Walker gets slowly back to his feet.
Fresco misses with a wild combination.
Walker tries for a takedown but Fresco sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wandy Walker. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Walker counters with a single leg into guard. Fresco didn't expect that.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Fresco won't let Walker get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Fresco lands a nice shot to the body.
Fresco throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Fresco misses the shot to the body.
Fresco throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Walker keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Fresco is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Walker rather than just go for the knockout.
Fresco swings for the body but Walker moves out of range.
Walker takes a shot to the body in his stride.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Wandy Walker.
I think Walker has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Wandy Walker decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
