PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Lowrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Wall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wall has chosen Tupac Feat. Phil Collins-In The Air as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Lowrey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Wall!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lowrey gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Wall engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Lowrey trying to keep a closed guard but Wall is proving a slippery customer.

Lowrey has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wall can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Wall stands and throws Lowrey's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Lowrey holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.

Wall content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Wall thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lowrey's head.
Wall slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wall is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lowrey sees it coming and defends easily.

Lowrey regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Wall.
Wall is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Wall tries to free his leg and advance position but Lowrey is retaining full guard.
Wall wants to control from the top but Lowrey keeps moving.

John Wall has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Lowrey tries for a takedown but Wall circles away easily

and Wall counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lowrey's guard now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wall wants to control but Lowrey is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. John Wall wasn't active enough on the ground.
Lowrey has a takedown stuffed.
A slapping leg kick lands for Wall.

Wall darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Lowrey is trying to maintain the position but Wall is very close to passing his half guard.
Wall is stalling here. Lowrey is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Wall seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Lowrey has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Wall manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
John Wall has got the better of the ground game so far.

Wall stands up and waves to Lowrey to follow him.
Lowrey shoots in looking for a takedown but Wall manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lowrey's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Lowrey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lowrey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wall's waist but Wall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lowrey off to one side.
Wall defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lowrey.

Wall leaves Lowrey with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Wall feints and as Lowrey raises his hands in defense, Wall changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lowrey keeping moving, preventing Wall from controlling successfully.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Wall trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wall throws a strike but Lowrey rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Wall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Wall is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lowrey defends it well.

Wall looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Lowrey is looking to control Wall's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lowrey avoid being mounted?
Lowrey is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Wall is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lowrey is just riding it out for now. Wall eventually gives up the hold.

Wall looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Wall controlling the pace.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Wall working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Lowrey's thigh. Lowrey counters though and makes it back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by John Wall.

Wall darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Wall comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wall has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
