And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phil Davis!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joseph shoots for a double leg takedown but Davis sprawls well. He's pushed Joseph's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Davis stuffs the takedown.

Davis thuds his right hand into Joseph's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Davis scores with a sloppy right hand. Joseph should have avoided that one.
Davis has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Davis connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Davis uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Davis throws a hook but Joseph avoids it easily.
Joseph closes this distance looking for a takedown but Davis circles away.
Davis lands a slapping body shot.
Davis sizes up Joseph with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Davis lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Joseph fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Davis throws out a loose jab but Joseph uses good head movement to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Joseph's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Davis. Joseph does a little dance to reset his feet.
Davis takes a swing at Joseph's ribcage but misses.
Joseph shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Davis pinned against the cage. Davis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Phil Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Joseph might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.
