The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Link Gatez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Martin.

Martin thuds his right hand into Gatez's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Martin shoots in for a takedown but Gatez shows good takedown defense.

Martin tries to bum rush Gatez with a series of wild strikes but Gatez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gatez tries to sprawl but Martin drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Gatez is looking for a sweep. Martin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Martin is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Gatez still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Gatez has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Martin is staying active underneath Gatez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Martin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gatez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gatez's back!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gatez is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Martin gets his way!
