PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mustafa AlTurk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Cornell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cornell has chosen Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

AlTurk drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Cornell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cornell should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
AlTurk works his way to full guard. Good work.
Cornell tries to free his leg and advance position but AlTurk is retaining full guard.
Cornell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Cornell has eaten all the pies!
AlTurk pulls Cornell in close to prevent any damage.
AlTurk wants to stand but Cornell is controlling the position.

AlTurk on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if AlTurk tries to get out of the position.
AlTurk is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cornell is controlling him.
AlTurk looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cornell is one step ahead there.
AlTurk pulls Cornell in to control the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Mustafa AlTurk wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
AlTurk stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Cornell.

Cornell has AlTurk up against the cage in a clinch.
Cornell is pushing AlTurk up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
AlTurk is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Cornell fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Cornell tries for a takedown but AlTurk manages to get underhooks.
Cornell keeps control of AlTurk as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

AlTurk turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and AlTurk manages to end up in side control.
Cornell is trying to control AlTurk's posture but AlTurk avoids it.
Cornell is trying to work for a sweep but AlTurk has mounted him!

AlTurk stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
AlTurk lands a jab to the nose.
The fight stays on the outside here - AlTurk looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A nice combination there by AlTurk.
Cornell blocks the body kick.

Cornell tries a head kick but it misses.

AlTurk gets a takedown into half guard.

AlTurk is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Cornell is looking to get back to full guard here but AlTurk has managed to pass to side control instead.

Cornell is not content to let AlTurk control the position.
Cornell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with AlTurk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
AlTurk is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cornell is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cornell is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but AlTurk is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cornell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mustafa AlTurk dominated that round.
That's time! AlTurk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



AlTurk rushes Cornell and presses him up against the cage.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting AlTurk here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

AlTurk successfully pulls guard.
Cornell tries to free his leg and advance position but AlTurk is retaining full guard.
Cornell throws a big right hand that misses.
Cornell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cornell connects with a couple of short punches.
Cornell stopping the sweep attempt from AlTurk.
Cornell trying to control the position from guard on top but AlTurk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

AlTurk seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
AlTurk seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cornell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cornell wants to get back to full guard but AlTurk has mounted him!
AlTurk looking to control but Cornell is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
AlTurk prevents Cornell from getting the reversal.
Cornell looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
AlTurk doesn't have the hooks in and Cornell manages to turn into his guard.

Cornell wants to control from the top but AlTurk keeps moving.
Cornell is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Mustafa AlTurk overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
AlTurk keeping moving, preventing Cornell from controlling successfully.
Cornell is looking to work some ground and pound but AlTurk has wrist control.

AlTurk looking for subs off his back but Cornell has passed one foot through into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
AlTurk on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
AlTurk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cornell tries to pass to full mount but AlTurk defends it.

Cornell frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Cornell is working for a guillotine from mount but AlTurk frees his head quite easily.
Cornell scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish AlTurk?
AlTurk is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
AlTurk is desperately trying to improve his position but Cornell has a good base and remains in mount.
AlTurk tries to hold on but Cornell postures up.

Cornell raining down hammerfists from mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cornell lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cornell jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but AlTurk manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Cornell has hold of AlTurk's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! AlTurk tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Cornell cranks the arm and AlTurk screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from AlTurk, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Tommy Cornell!
Tommy Cornell decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
