The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smalls misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Salazar wants to clinch up but Smalls keeps it at a distance.

Horrible takedown by Smalls or perhaps it was just good defense by Salazar which made him look bad.
Smalls shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Salazar sprawls well. Salazar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smalls gets slowly back to his feet.
Smalls scores with a one two! Salazar had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Smalls shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Salazar pinned against the cage. Salazar gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Smalls jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Salazar walks away with a smile on his face. Smalls gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Edgardo Salazar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Smalls shoots in for a double leg but Salazar sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Smalls is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Salazar is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Salazar has escaped and now he's on top!

Smalls is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Salazar is aware though and is defending well.

Smalls has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Salazar is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Smalls.

Salazar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smalls. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Smalls is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Salazar's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Salazar's back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smalls is working for a rear naked choke. Salazar is not defending it well and Smalls has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Salazar refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Salazar's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
