PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rob Broughton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marley Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rob Broughton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Marley Bob!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Broughton or perhaps it was just good defense by Bob which made him look bad.
Nice sprawl there from Broughton as Bob shoots in.
Bob avoids a punch combination nicely.

Broughton gets a double leg takedown into Bob's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Broughton trying to control the position from guard on top but Bob is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Broughton loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Broughton looking to sit in guard and control but Bob gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bob trying to control but Broughton is working from the bottom.
Bob wants to pass the guard but Broughton is keeping the position.
Broughton tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Broughton looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Broughton wants to sweep here but Bob controlling him for the moment.
Bob slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Broughton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bob on the ground.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Marley Bob hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Broughton shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Broughton changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bob looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bob prevents Broughton from moving into mount.
Bob sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Bob makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bob.

Bob seems keen to control Broughton's posture.
Bob bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Broughton's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bob seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Bob drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bob jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Broughton looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Bob wants to control from the top but Broughton keeps moving.

Bob throws a big elbow that misses.
Broughton wants to hit a switch here but Bob passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Broughton there!
Broughton is trying desperately to improve position.
Bob wants to control the pace but Broughton is squirming around nicely.

Broughton working to try and regain half guard.
Bob thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Bob throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Broughton is squirming around, avoiding Bob's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Broughton wants to control but Bob is having none of it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Marley Bob will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Broughton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Broughton avoids the head kick by Bob.
Bob lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Rob Broughton has been cut.
Broughton shoots in for a takedown but Bob shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Broughton shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Bob wants to control but Broughton is having none of it.

Bob somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bob tries to score a power double leg takedown but Broughton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bob somewhat.
Broughton fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rob Broughton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bob tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Bob displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Broughton.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Broughton fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bob shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Broughton but Broughton pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Bob displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Broughton throws out the jab.
Broughton shoots for a double leg takedown but Bob sprawls well. He's pushed Broughton's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Bob shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Broughton pinned against the cage. Broughton gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Broughton closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Broughton lands in his opponent's guard.

Bob is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Broughton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Broughton tries to free his leg and advance position but Bob is retaining full guard.
Broughton could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Broughton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bob has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Broughton has managed to get both his arms back between Bob's legs - danger averted.
Broughton loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Broughton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bob pushes Broughton off and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bob needs to keep his hands up - Broughton had a free shot at his head there.

Bob scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Bob fails with a takedown attempt.
Broughton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bob defends it nicely.
Broughton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bob is fending him off so far but Broughton persists. Nope, Bob circles away and we're back to standing.

Bob thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bob postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bob pushes down on Broughton's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bob passes to full mount!
Bob takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Broughton wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Bob.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marley Bob showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Rob Broughton's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Bob misses with a straight right.

Broughton is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bob's half guard.
Bob is trying to control but can't.
Broughton not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Broughton missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Bob wants to control but Broughton is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bob regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Broughton.
Bob is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Bob trying to keep a closed guard but Broughton is proving a slippery customer.

Broughton trying to move into half guard but instead Bob has managed to sweep!
Bob is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Bob pushes down on Broughton's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Bob throwing shots but Broughton is blocking nicely.

Bob is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bob wants to take a breather but Broughton is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Marley Bob was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Nice takedown defense from Broughton. No joy for Bob on that attempt.
Bob tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Broughton counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Broughton fails to land the takedown.
Broughton shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bob counters with a head kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bob throws a sloppy head kick and Broughton moves out of range easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bob.
Broughton tries to buck Bob off but Bob is having none of it.
Bob wants to control but Broughton is keeping him busy.

Bob is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Broughton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The strikes coming from Bob are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Bob fails to land a wild elbow strike.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
You can see the frustration on Broughton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rob Broughton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Marley Bob is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Broughton on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Broughton tries to get out of the position.

Marley Bob comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bob has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
