PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Akira Hayabusa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yamato Damashii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hayabusa comes to the cage accompanied by Viper!. The crowd seem to be enjoying Damashii's choice of entrance music: Ciemna Strefa. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Hayabusa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yamato Damashii!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Damashii clinches.

Damashii works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hayabusa keeping moving, preventing Damashii from controlling successfully.
Hayabusa is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Damashii pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hayabusa is keeping the position for now.

Hayabusa has his foot on Damashii's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Damashii works his way back into a safe position though.
Damashii slips nicely into half guard.
Damashii is pressing down on Hayabusa's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hayabusa is holding on for now.
Damashii wants to control but Hayabusa is keeping him busy.
Hayabusa is trying to get back to full guard.
Hayabusa is staying active underneath Damashii, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Damashii is taking a breather. Hayabusa says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Hayabusa is refusing to be controlled, as Damashii sits in half guard.

Yamato Damashii has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Damashii gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Hayabusa throws a shot from downtown. Damashii moves away and avoids it.
Hayabusa leaves Damashii with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hayabusa looks to land a combination but Damashii avoids it well.
Hayabusa circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hayabusa fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Damashii is out of range.
Damashii changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hayabusa tries to avoid it but Damashii manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hayabusa to the ground. Hayabusa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fighters circle momentarily. Damashii darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Damashii takes the fight into the clinch.

Damashii works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hayabusa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Damashii gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Yamato Damashii was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Hayabusa gets caught flat footed, as Damashii shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Damashii pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hayabusa is keeping the position for now.

Hayabusa is looking for a triangle but Damashii pushes his legs off easily.
Damashii passes Hayabusa's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Damashii is trying to control. Hayabusa wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hayabusa is in trouble now - Damashii has advanced to mount!
Hayabusa is squirming around, avoiding Damashii's attempts to control the action.
Hayabusa working to try and regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Damashii controlling the pace for now.
Damashii landing punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Damashii looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Damashii avoids the attempt from Hayabusa to control.
Damashii working away from the top, dropping strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hayabusa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Damashii controlling from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
BOOM! Damashii connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yamato Damashii dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hayabusa cracks Damashii with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Damashii dives in and grabs Hayabusa's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hayabusa pushes down on Damashii's head and hops out.

Hayabusa not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Hayabusa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hayabusa wants to sweep but no luck.
Hayabusa is trying to control the position but Damashii postures up.

Damashii stands and steps away. Hayabusa gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice straight punches there by Damashii. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Damashii.


Hayabusa is rocked!
Akira Hayabusa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Damashii cracks Hayabusa with a left hook right on the temple and Hayabusa goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Damashii lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Hayabusa is OK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Yamato Damashii!
Our winner, Yamato Damashii, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
