PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Greg Mungo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anton LaVey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Mungo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anton LaVey!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LaVey looks for a takedown but Mungo sprawls well.
LaVey tries to move into range but Mungo moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Mungo misses with a right hand

and LaVey decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mungo's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
LaVey postures up.

LaVey drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and LaVey jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

LaVey is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
LaVey lands a couple of elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anton LaVey dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mungo swats away the attempt to clinch by LaVey.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from LaVey is defended easily by Mungo.
Mungo takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Mungo takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
LaVey will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
LaVey lands a body shot.
Mungo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mungo lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Mungo fails to land with a series of punches.
Mungo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but LaVey manages to avoid it.
A jab from LaVey misses.
The fighters circling - Mungo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
LaVey stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mungo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mungo throws a series of punches but LaVey avoids them all with ease.

It looks like Anton LaVey has been cut.

Mungo keeps the fight on the outside.
Mungo throws a right hand that LaVey ducks under and follows up with a left that LaVey also avoids with ease.
LaVey bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

LaVey forces Mungo back against the cage and clinches.
LaVey wants to get back to striking at distance but Mungo won't allow it.
LaVey tries to circle away but Mungo has him pinned against the cage.

LaVey is looking to break free of the clinch but Mungo has double underhooks.
Mungo lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Mungo misses with a hook from the clinch.
LaVey tries to break the clinch but Mungo is controlling the position.
LaVey wants to get back to striking at distance but Mungo won't allow it.

A frustrated look appears on LaVey's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Mungo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

LaVey throws a one two combo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mungo pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Greg Mungo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mungo looks to land a left hand but LaVey moved out of range nicely.
Mungo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from LaVey.

LaVey fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Mungo looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

LaVey shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Mungo controls LaVey momentarily but LaVey frees himself.
LaVey has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

LaVey wants to control from the top but Mungo keeps moving.
LaVey throws an elbow that misses. Mungo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in LaVey's guard. Nice move by Mungo!
LaVey is pulling down on Mungo's head. It's preventing any offense from Mungo, at least for the moment.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
LaVey is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

LaVey is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Anton LaVey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mungo throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck LaVey on the side of the head.
No joy there for Mungo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
LaVey looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mungo is fending him off so far but LaVey persists. Nope, Mungo circles away and we're back to standing.

LaVey closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mungo did well to prevent LaVey getting side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
LaVey is keen to just control but Mungo is a slippery customer.
LaVey wants to pass the guard but Mungo is defending well.

LaVey is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

LaVey is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Mungo!

LaVey is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mungo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mungo shrugs it off.
LaVey wants to control the pace but Mungo is squirming around nicely.
LaVey breaks from Mungo's wrist control and lands an elbow.

LaVey wants to finish this one by submission but Mungo is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from LaVey.

LaVey working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Mungo turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips LaVey off and cradles Mungo's limp body as LaVey celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Anton LaVey!
