Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Cairo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shawn Shurk!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shurk throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Cairo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Shurk drives through with a takedown into Cairo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Shurk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cairo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shurk stands up over Cairo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cairo is on top in guard.
Cairo stands and throws Shurk's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The strikes coming from Cairo are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Cairo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shurk has escaped the position, nice work there.

Shurk is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cairo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cairo's back!

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Shurk's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Cairo turns into Shurk and is now in his guard.
Shurk keeping moving, preventing Cairo from controlling successfully.
Cairo stands and throws Shurk's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Shurk tries to bench press Cairo off him but Cairo keeps the position.
Shurk manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shurk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Shurk wants to control the action here but instead Cairo manages to pass to full mount!

Shurk defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cairo.
Cairo scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Cairo dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Shurk throws a jab but it's blocked by Cairo.

Cairo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Shurk napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Shurk throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Cairo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shurk is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Cairo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
