PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gathii Kumanda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dumme Fjas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gathii Kumanda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dumme Fjas!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fjas shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kumanda napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Fjas in side control lands a decent elbow.

Fjas is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kumanda is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Fjas tries to move into full mount but can't pass Kumanda's legs.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Fjas tries for a kimura but Kumanda is defending well.
Kumanda takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Kumanda seems a little lost for a moment, as Fjas dominates the positioning.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fjas's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kumanda dodges the ground and pound from Fjas.
Fjas wants to control but Kumanda is keeping him busy.
Fjas has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The referee asks Fjas politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Fjas prefers to stall for the moment though.
Fjas misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Kumanda seems a little lost for a moment, as Fjas dominates the positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fjas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Fjas throws a strike but Kumanda avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Let's hope that Fjas has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Fjas drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kumanda dives on top into guard.
Kumanda has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Fjas seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Fjas is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kumanda defends well.

Fjas is looking to take a break and control but Kumanda is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dumme Fjas dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Fjas shoots in and bounces Kumanda off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Fjas looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kumanda with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Fjas in particular looking to stall.
Fjas is keen to just control but Kumanda is a slippery customer.
Fjas is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Fjas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kumanda avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Fjas.
Fjas thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kumanda's head.
Fjas with the ground and pound but Kumanda uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Fjas wants to control from the top but Kumanda keeps moving.
Fjas cracks Kumanda with a solid left hand.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fjas tries to free his leg and advance position but Kumanda is retaining full guard.

Fjas slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Kumanda takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Fjas scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Kumanda to see if he's OK.
Fjas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
You can see the frustration on Kumanda's face as Fjas controls the position.
Kumanda takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Fjas connects with a nice short shot to Kumanda's temple.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fjas loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Kumanda scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Fjas land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Fjas stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dumme Fjas!
A very excited looking Dumme Fjas made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
