PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between First Dag (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruno Oppenheim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dag comes to the cage accompanied by The Hero. Oppenheim has chosen Für Kaiser Gott und Vaterland as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, First Dag!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bruno Oppenheim!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oppenheim gets a clinch.
Dag has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Oppenheim after a bit of a struggle.

Dag breaks the clinch.

Dag looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Dag looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dag stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dag not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Oppenheim really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dag. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dag thows a huge punch but Oppenheim dodges it nicely.
Dag not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Dag throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Dag is looking to pass Oppenheim's guard but actually Oppenheim recovers to full guard.
Dag might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Dag working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Dag missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Dag pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Oppenheim is keeping the position for now.
Dag loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dag throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Oppenheim works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Dag trying to control the position from guard on top but Oppenheim is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Oppenheim wants to get back to his feet but Dag is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Dag throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Oppenheim works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Dag throws a big elbow that misses.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Oppenheim can do anything to dispel that myth.
Dag with a flurry of punches that miss.
Dag engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dag misses with a hook.

Dag takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like First Dag has been cut.
Bruno Oppenheim is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Oppenheim throws a right and a left that Dag avoids nicely.
Oppenheim misses with a wild combination.
Oppenheim takes one to the side of the head.


It looks like Bruno Oppenheim has been cut.
A telegraphed right hand from Dag misses the target.
Dag takes one to the chin there.

Dag closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Dag controlling the action here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Oppenheim wants to control but Dag is keeping busy.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dag scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Dag content to control rather than advance.
Dag lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Oppenheim is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Oppenheim is not content to let Dag control the position.
Dag not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

First Dag dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Oppenheim does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
A combination from Oppenheim does no damage.
Dag throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Dag avoids a punch combination nicely.
Oppenheim lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dag circles away quickly and effectively.
Bruno Oppenheim is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Oppenheim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Oppenheim misses with a wild body shot.
Dag throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Oppenheim swats away the attempt to clinch by Dag.
Nice shot lands for Oppenheim.
Nice defenses there by Oppenheim.
Nice takedown defense from Oppenheim. No joy for Dag on that attempt.

Oppenheim stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Oppenheim wants it to stay on the feet.
Oppenheim ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dag moves away.
Oppenheim digs a good hook to Dag's body.
Dag dodges the punch combination from Oppenheim.
No luck for Dag with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for First Dag. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Oppenheim lands with an overhand left.
Dag on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Oppenheim looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Dag misses with a straight right.

Oppenheim buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dag takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Oppenheim throws a body punch but Dag moves out of range.
Oppenheim misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Dag slips a straight right by Oppenheim.
Oppenheim uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dag.
Dag on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Oppenheim misses with a wild body shot.
Bruno Oppenheim seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Sloppy strikes from Oppenheim. Those never looked like landing.
Dag throws a lazy right hand but Oppenheim sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Oppenheim misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Oppenheim looks to score with a jab to the body but Dag is just out of range.
Dag avoids a punch combination nicely.

Dag shoots for a takedown but Oppenheim saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Dag uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Oppenheim throws a head kick that misses.
A telegraphed right hand from Dag misses the target.
Dag ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Oppenheim moves away.
Oppenheim lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Oppenheim misses with a wild body shot.

Oppenheim closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Oppenheim taking a breather.
Oppenheim throws a knee to the head but misses.

Dag pulls guard successfully.
Dag bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Oppenheim's guard.

Oppenheim keeping moving, preventing Dag from controlling successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dag lands a couple of elbows.
First Dag overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dag controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Dag connects with a couple of short punches.
Dag controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Dag throws a big right hand that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bruno Oppenheim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Oppenheim is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Dag scores with a couple of nice shots.

Oppenheim is trying to maintain the position but Dag is very close to passing his half guard.
Dag looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Oppenheim with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Dag drops an elbow to the side of Oppenheim's head.
Dag lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Oppenheim! More strikes land and this one is all over! Dag jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). First Dag!
A relieved looking First Dag thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
