PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dane Beretta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamal Kilgore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kilgore is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Champion by Chipmunk ft. Chris Brown. Jamal Kilgore is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jamal Kilgore!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kilgore will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Beretta takes one to the chin there.
Kilgore fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Beretta checks it well.
Kilgore tries to score with a low kick but Beretta moves his leg out of the way.

Beretta shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Kilgore stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kilgore wants it to stay on the feet.

Beretta fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kilgore avoids it really well and circles away.
Jamal Kilgore is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Kilgore scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Kilgore bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Beretta's head backwards.
Beretta shoots in looking for a takedown. Kilgore tries to sprawl out of it but Beretta keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kilgore manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kilgore rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Beretta moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kilgore fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Beretta looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Beretta has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Beretta there as he acknowledges the shot.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kilgore misses with a hook. Beretta ducked under it nicely.
Kilgore lands a jab to the head.
Beretta takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Kilgore lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Kilgore lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Kilgore wants to land a leg kick but Beretta is out of range.
Kilgore looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Beretta takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Kilgore is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Beretta had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Beretta takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Jamal Kilgore seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beretta tries for a takedown but Kilgore circles away easily
and Kilgore counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kilgore throws out a loose jab but Beretta uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kilgore misses with an uppercut. Beretta saw that one coming.
Kilgore lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Kilgore lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Kilgore throws a jab but it's blocked by Beretta.
Kilgore fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Beretta manages to avoid it.
Kilgore lands the left hand.
Beretta fails with the takedown.
Sloppy strikes from Kilgore. Those never looked like landing.

Kilgore looks to land a left hand but Beretta moved out of range nicely.
Kilgore has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Beretta shoots in and gets a takedown into Kilgore's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Kilgore wriggles free and stands up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kilgore fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Kilgore connects with a crisp jab.
Kilgore lands a glancing blow to the side of Beretta's head.
Beretta shoots in for a double leg but Kilgore sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kilgore swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Beretta.
Beretta looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kilgore is fending him off so far but Beretta persists. Nope, Kilgore circles away and we're back to standing.
Beretta shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Beretta throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kilgore's waist but Kilgore gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Beretta off to one side.

Kilgore lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Kilgore lands with a nice combination. Beretta backs away looking to recover.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Beretta is rocked!

Kilgore dances in with a quick combination. Beretta is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Kilgore snaps Beretta's head back. Beretta stumbles backwards against the cage. Kilgore steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Beretta's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Beretta just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jamal Kilgore!
A relieved looking Jamal Kilgore thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
