PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Jphn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johan Bensing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for John Jphn has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Jphn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johan Bensing!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bensing has managed to clinch.
Jphn swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Bensing escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bensing drives through and clinches with Jphn against the cage.

Bensing manages to break the clinch.
Jphn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bensing swivels and escapes.
Jphn fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jphn shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Jphn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bensing tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nice sprawl there from Bensing as Jphn shoots in.
Jphn connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bensing's hands.

Bensing gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Bensing has clasped his hands together around Jphn's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bensing working the ground and pound but Jphn is defending the strikes.
Jphn is looking for a sweep.
Jphn takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Bensing really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jphn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bensing working the ground and pound but Jphn is defending the strikes.
Jphn could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bensing tries to advance to mount but can't.
Bensing is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Jphn will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Bensing misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bensing controlling the position from side mount.
I looks like Bensing might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Bensing decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Jphn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bensing as he avoids it easily.
Jphn has a takedown stuffed.
Jphn is breathing heavily.
Jphn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jphn throws a lazy right hand but Bensing sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bensing rushes Jphn and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Bensing jumps into guard, dragging Jphn to the mat.
Bensing trying to keep a closed guard but Jphn is proving a slippery customer.
Bensing seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Let's hope that Bensing has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bensing lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Bensing is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jphn has gone for a leg lock! Bensing slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jphn's guard.
Bensing not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Jphn is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bensing is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jphn is on top in guard.
Bensing is pulling down on Jphn's head. It's preventing any offense from Jphn, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Jphn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Jphn prevents the takedown attempt.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Bensing goes for a takedown in the clinch but Jphn prevents it.

Bensing has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jphn uses from the top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jphn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bensing swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Jphn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Bensing pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and Bensing counters with a takedown into side control.
Jphn manages to get back to half guard.
Bensing seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Jphn is looking to control Bensing's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jphn avoid being mounted?
Bensing is looking to take a break and control but Jphn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Bensing thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jphn's head.

Bensing wants to get back to his feet.
Jphn is pressing down on Bensing's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Jphn controls Bensing momentarily but Bensing frees himself.
Bensing stays in close to Jphn's body and controls the position.

Jphn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bensing gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Bensing has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jphn clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Bensing is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Jphn staying busy and making it hard for Bensing to control.
Jphn manages to reverse the position and now he's in Bensing's guard. Nice work there by Jphn.
Bensing seems keen to control Jphn's posture.

Jphn wants to work for an arm triangle but Bensing is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jphn has had enough of the clinch but Bensing keeps him there for the moment.

Bensing is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bensing looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jphn with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Bensing decides to stand and escape the position.
Jphn misses with a takedown

and Bensing counters with a single leg into guard. Jphn didn't expect that.
Bensing wants to stand but Jphn has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Bensing advances to half guard.
Bensing is taking a breather. Jphn says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Bensing looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Bensing takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Johan Bensing comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bensing has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
