PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eric Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piotrek Pawel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eric Turner had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 186.9lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Piotrek Pawel acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eric Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Piotrek Pawel!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pawel fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pawel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Turner as he jumps to the side.
Pawel moves in looking to clinch but Turner pushes him off.

Pawel gets caught flat footed, as Turner shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Turner with a flurry of punches that miss.
Turner throws a big right hand that misses.
Pawel throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Turner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pawel looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Turner controls from within his opponent's guard.
Turner trying to control but Pawel is working from the bottom.
Turner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Turner stands and throws Pawel's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Pawel is not content to let Turner control the position.

Turner postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Pawel tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Turner wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Turner stands up and beckons Pawel to his feet.

Turner clinches up against the ropes.
Turner will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Pawel up against the ropes.
Turner lands an elbow just above Pawel 's eye.


It looks like Piotrek Pawel has been cut.

Pawel is trying to pull guard but Turner has him pressed against the ropes.

Turner lands an elbow inside.

Turner's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pawel closes the distance but Turner moves to the side
and Turner counters with a leg kick.
Pawel tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Turner counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Turner breaks from the clinch.

Turner forces Pawel back against the ropes and clinches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pawel tries to pull guard but Turner holds him up against the ropes and eventually Pawel drops back down to his feet.
Eric Turner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Piotrek Pawel.
Pawel looks gassed!

Turner breaks from the clinch.
No joy there for Turner, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Turner gets the takedown into side control.

Turner stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Turner closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A frustrated look appears on Pawel's face as he tries to break the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Turner.
Pawel has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Turner after a bit of a struggle.

Turner successfully pulls guard.

Turner is looking for a triangle but Pawel pushes his legs off easily.
Turner has a closed guard, preventing Pawel from standing up.
Turner wants to stand but Pawel is controlling the position.
Turner is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pawel trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Turner manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Turner decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Turner clinches with his opponent.
Pawel tries to pull guard but Turner holds him up against the ropes and eventually Pawel drops back down to his feet.
Knees to the body from Turner.
Pawel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Turner walks away with a smile on his face. Pawel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Pawel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Turner's waist but Turner gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pawel off to one side.
Eric Turner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Piotrek Pawel.

Turner closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Pawel gets full guard.

Turner is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Turner is looking to work some ground and pound but Pawel has wrist control.
Turner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pawel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Pawel is breathing heavily.
Turner trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Pawel can't keep his opponent in guard - Turner advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Pawel is staying active underneath Turner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Eric Turner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Turner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pawel is just riding it out for now. Turner eventually gives up the hold.

Turner is trying to work for a kimura but Pawel is defending well.

Turner is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Turner throwing shots but Pawel is blocking nicely.

Turner is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pawel doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Turner.
Turner thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Turner throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pawel is trying to maintain the position but Turner is very close to passing his half guard.
Pawel keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Turner seems to be looking for submissions.

Turner looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pawel is refusing to be controlled, as Turner sits in half guard.
Turner not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Pawel avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Turner.

Turner is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Pawel is looking to control Turner's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pawel avoid being mounted?

Turner seems to be working for a kimura but Pawel defends the submission attempt.

Turner decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Pawel enables Turner to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pawel manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Pawel can't keep his opponent in guard - Turner advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Turner throws a big elbow that misses.

Turner decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pawel, up you get!
Pawel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Turner.

Turner decides to stand back up.
Pawel fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Turner gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Turner jumps guard.
Turner wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Turner lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pawel!
Turner throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Pawel because Turner loaded up on that one.

Turner is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Pawel has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Pawel holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Turner tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Turner sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Turner is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Pawel can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Piotrek Pawel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Turner get's back to his feet.

Well Turner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
