PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Christian Starter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darian Gorman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Starter kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Will Smith - Party Starter. Christian Starter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darian Gorman!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Starter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gorman avoids the head kick by Starter.
Starter slips a jab and a cross from Gorman.

Gorman throws a head kick but Starter moves out of range.
Left hook, right uppercut from Gorman.
Starter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Starter shoots in looking for a takedown. Gorman tries to sprawl out of it but Starter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gorman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Gorman lands with a nice combination. Starter backs away looking to recover.

Starter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gorman stops Starter from passing to mount.
Gorman tries to improve position but can't.
Starter looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Gorman is avoiding damage well.
Starter postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Starter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gorman, who protects the arm well.

Starter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gorman keeps working.
Gorman is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Starter is controlling him well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Starter shoots in looking for a takedown. Gorman tries to sprawl out of it but Starter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gorman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Darian Gorman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Starter shoots for a takedown but Gorman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gorman wants to clinch up but Starter keeps it at a distance.

Gorman gets caught flat footed, as Starter shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Starter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gorman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Christian Starter will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Gorman tries to clinch there but Starter circles away.

Starter misses with a takedown attempt - Gorman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Starter shoots in for a takedown but Gorman shows good takedown defense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Starter decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Starter fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gorman.

Starter lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Starter stands up from Gorman's guard - Starter perhaps looking for a knockout.

Gorman throws a sloppy head kick and Starter moves out of range easily.
Gorman looks to clinch

and Starter counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Starter is trying to control the action in half guard but Gorman is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Gorman tries to kick Starter off but Starter keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Starter tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gorman knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Starter is taking a breather. Gorman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Starter lands with a punch from half guard.
Starter slows the pace down in half guard.
Starter passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gorman!
Starter lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Darian Gorman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Starter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Christian Starter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Starter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
