PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cody Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bernard Chapin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Chapin's choice of entrance music: Eminence Front-The Who. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cody Rose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bernard Chapin!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Russell Pearce and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rose misses with a hook

and Chapin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Chapin.
Chapin is trying to drag Rose to the mat but Rose just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Chapin tries for a takedown but Rose manages to get underhooks.
Rose looking for a takedown.
Rose has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Chapin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Chapin wants a takedown.
Cody Rose has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bernard Chapin.

Rose pulls guard successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rose is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rose looking for a sweep. Not yet Rose, not yet.
Chapin trying to control the position from guard on top but Rose is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chapin won't allow Rose to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rose utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Chapin trying to stand up but can't free himself from Rose's guard.
Rose knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chapin on the ground.
Rose is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A head kick misses from Rose.
Nice uppercut there from Rose.
Chapin shoots in looking for a takedown. Rose tries to sprawl out of it but Chapin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rose manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A cross from Rose lands.
Rose misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Chapin.
Nice sprawl there from Rose as Chapin shoots in.
Rose dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
A punch combination from Chapin misses.
Rose lands a jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rose avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rose doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Rose really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Chapin moves out of range as Rose strikes.
Chapin takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Chapin fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rose with a hook.
Rose digs a good hook to Chapin's body.
Chapin tries to clinch there but Rose circles away.
Rose misses with the combination.
Rose ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Chapin moves away.

Chapin gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A short right from Chapin.
Chapin goes for a takedown attempt but Rose pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rose swings for the body but Chapin moves out of range.
Cody Rose is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rose swinging wildly here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rose misses with a few strikes there.
Rose cracks a nice hook into Chapin's ribs.
Rose tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Chapin was well out of range. Poor timing from Rose.
Danga de danga de dang - Rose scores with a four punch combination!
Rose tries to land a front kick but Chapin steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Rose just misses with a punch to the body.
Rose scores with a jab to the body.
Rose avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Chapin changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Chapin misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rose cracks Chapin with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Chapin takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Chapin clinches with his opponent.
Rose blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Rose jumps guard and drags Chapin to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Rose looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rose wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Chapin wanted to stand there but Rose had control of the position.
Chapin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Chapin gets to his feet - Rose follows without any prompting.
Rose lands a head shot.
Nice takedown defense from Rose. No joy for Chapin on that attempt.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Chapin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rose.
Chapin is trying desperately to land a takedown but Rose is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Chapin.
Rose wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Rose is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Chapin doesn't manage to clinch there - Rose circles away.
Chapin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rose moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Rose dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Chapin looks to land a right hand but Rose moved out of range.
Rose cracks a nice hook into Chapin's ribs.
Rose looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rose lands a head shot.
Chapin closes the distance but Rose moves to the side
and Rose counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rose is pawing at Chapin, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Chapin's nose. Chapin is badly hurt! Rose pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Chapin tries desperately to hold on but Rose is relentless in his assault! As Chapin receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Rose away and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cody Rose!
