The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maldini looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Maldini pushes down on Wegscheider's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Wegscheider has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Maldini is working away from the top position though.
Maldini seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wegscheider does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Maldini wants to free his trapped foot but Wegscheider is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wegscheider is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Maldini pulls his head out easily.
Maldini looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wegscheider with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wegscheider is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Maldini scores with a couple of nice shots.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Maldini connects with a nice short shot to Wegscheider's temple.
