Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Max Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wes Welker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Max Rush had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 186.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Eliza Hachem.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Welker but Welker pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Welker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rush can't keep his opponent in guard - Welker advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Welker wants to take a breather but Rush is having none of it.
Rush wants to control but Welker is keeping busy.
Welker trying to pass the guard but Rush defending well.
Rush slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Welker wants to control from the top but Rush keeps moving.

Rush looking for a guillotine here but Welker defends easily.
Rush not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Welker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rush swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rush wants to sweep but no luck.
Welker passes Rush's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Welker is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rush defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rush is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Welker is trying to work for a kimura but Rush is defending well.
Welker looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Welker is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Rush is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
