PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gable Stanton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Floring (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gable Stanton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jon Floring!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stanton stuffs the takedown attempt from Floring. Floring gets slowly back to his feet.
Floring shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stanton pinned against the cage. Stanton gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Floring tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stanton paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Floring fails with an attempt to clinch.
Floring throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Floring is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Floring changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stanton tries to avoid it but Floring manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stanton to the ground. Stanton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gable Stanton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Floring.
Stanton throws a one two combo.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Floring.
Floring shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stanton as he jumps to the side.

Stanton closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Floring to the mat! Floring manages to get full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Stanton is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Floring looks gassed!
Stanton controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Stanton tries to free his leg and advance position but Floring is retaining full guard.

Gable Stanton has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Stanton rushes Floring and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Floring tries to work over Stanton's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Floring tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Stanton just stands there and leans against the cage.
Floring throws a knee to the head but misses.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Stanton jumps guard and drags Floring to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Floring wants to control from the top but Stanton keeps moving.
Stanton wants to sweep but no luck.
Stanton is adopting a defensive guard.

Stanton is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Floring defends well.

Stanton is pulling down on Floring's head. It's preventing any offense from Floring, at least for the moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Stanton cracks Floring with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Floring can't escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Stanton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Floring for as long as he can get away with.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gable Stanton wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Stanton drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Floring is breathing heavily.
Floring is not content to let Stanton control the position.
Stanton advances to mount.
Floring is wriggling around trying to escape.
A nice elbow there by Stanton.
Stanton takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Floring counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Floring misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Floring tries to pull guard but Stanton holds him up against the cage and eventually Floring drops back down to his feet.
Floring takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Stanton gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Floring regains guard.

Stanton is stalling in the full guard.
Stanton wants to control from the top but Floring keeps moving.
Stanton not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

We're going to have a standup here because Gable Stanton wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Stanton misses with a series of wild punches.
Stanton is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Floring can do to turn this around?

Stanton turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Stanton manages to end up in side control.
Stanton is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Floring will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Stanton tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Stanton has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Floring dodges the ground and pound from Stanton.

Stanton has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Stanton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Stanton decides to stand up, so the ref orders Floring to his feet.

Stanton gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Floring regains guard.

Well Stanton has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
