PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brent Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brooks comes into the arena with Amazing by Kanye West blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kevin Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brent Crane!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Crane as Brooks shoots in.
Crane circles away from the clinch attempt.
Crane misses with a head kick.
Some bone on bone action there as Crane checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Brooks throws a head kick that misses.
Crane stuffs the takedown attempt from Brooks. Brooks gets slowly back to his feet.
Brooks looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Brooks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brooks wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crane wants to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brooks throws a sloppy head kick
and Crane counters with a series of strikes. Brooks will be more careful next time no doubt.
Brooks throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Crane closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Brooks is trying to get back to full guard.
Crane with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Brooks is pressing down on Crane's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Crane really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brooks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Crane throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brooks works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Crane content to stall in guard here.

Brooks looking for a guillotine here but Crane defends easily.
Brooks not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Crane trying to control but Brooks is working from the bottom.
Brooks controls Crane momentarily but Crane frees himself.
Crane throws a strike but Brooks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Crane is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brooks lands a couple of digs.
Crane striking off his back but it's not causing Brooks any problems.
Brooks looking to pass the guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Crane scores with a takedown into Brooks's guard.
Crane looks gassed!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brent Crane dominated that round.

Crane tries for a takedown but Brooks circles away easily
and Brooks counters with a nice uppercut.
Brooks closes the distance but Crane moves to the side

and Crane counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Crane moves into full mount! Brooks won't be happy about that!
Crane tries to control but Brooks wriggling away.
Brooks working to try and regain half guard.
Brooks is squirming around, avoiding Crane's attempts to control the action.
Crane is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Crane is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Crane is landing with some decent strikes but Brooks is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Crane can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Brooks is looking to escape.
Brooks is trying to escape the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Crane is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Brooks has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Brooks!
Brooks pushing down on Crane's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Brooks is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Crane!
Brooks lands a nice shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brooks wants to control the pace but Crane is squirming around nicely.

Crane is trying to control the position here but Brooks swings around for an armbar and he's got it! This one is all over, courtesy of a slick submission by Brooks!
