PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Billy Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hammer Axe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob comes to the cage accompanied by Notkea rotta - Itä meidän. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Billy Bob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hammer Axe!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bob takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Axe misses with a wild combination.
Axe throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Bob counters with a shoot takedown. Axe fights it but they end up in guard.
Axe utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bob trying to control but Axe is working from the bottom.
Bob working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bob postures up in Axe's guard and throws a big left but Axe blocks it.
Bob stops Axe from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bob drops back looking for a leg! Axe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Axe manages to kick Bob off! Bob jumps back into Axe's guard.

Bob slips nicely into half guard.
Bob not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Bob tries to pass to full mount but Axe defends it.
Bob prevents Axe from standing back up.
Bob thows a huge punch but Axe dodges it nicely.

Bob is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Axe is just riding it out for now. Bob eventually gives up the hold.
Axe keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Bob thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Axe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bob. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bob wants to take a breather but Axe is having none of it.

Bob thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Axe's head.
Bob is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Bob is trying to control the action in half guard but Axe is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Bob is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Axe doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bob.
Bob looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bob uses his free foot to push down on Axe's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Axe.
Bob tries to control but Axe wriggling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Bob dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bob throws a right hand that Axe ducks under and follows up with a left that Axe also avoids with ease.
Bob misses with a few strikes there.

so Bob counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Axe wants to get back to his feet but Bob is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Bob has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bob tries to free his leg and advance position but Axe is retaining full guard.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Bob misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Bob scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Axe to see if he's OK.

Bob tries for a kimura but Axe is defending well.

Bob is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Axe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bob will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Bob wants to lay and pray for a moment but Axe keeps working.

Bob swings around for an armbar but Axe sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bob's guard.

Bob is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bob is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Bob looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Bob seems to be working for a kimura but Axe defends the submission attempt.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bob connects with a nice short shot to Axe's temple.

Bob is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Axe avoids a series of strikes thrown by Bob.
Axe wants to get back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bob is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Axe has managed to escape the submission attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Billy Bob dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bob is defended easily by Axe.
Bob looks to land a combination. Axe sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

and Bob counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Billy Bob is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Axe, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Axe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Bob counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bob.

Bob is pushing down on Axe's leg trying to pass to half guard. Axe is fighting to maintain full guard but Bob has managed to sneak the leg through.

Bob is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Axe is just riding it out for now. Bob eventually gives up the hold.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bob tries to advance to mount but Axe denies him.

Bob is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Axe can do to turn this around?
Bob is looking to take a break and control but Axe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Billy Bob is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hammer Axe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Bob has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
