PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tomas Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harrison Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tomas Gunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harrison Hansen!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hansen circles away from the clinch attempt.

Hansen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hansen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hansen forces his way into half guard.
Hansen uses his free foot to push down on Gunn's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gunn.
Gunn tries to reverse the position but Hansen maintains control.
Gunn tries to lock up and control but Hansen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Gunn is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hansen controlling from the full mount.
Gunn keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gunn squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hansen is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Hansen scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Hansen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gunn sprawls well initially but Hansen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hansen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gunn's head.
Gunn wants to control but Hansen is keeping busy.
Hansen is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gunn!

Hansen looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Hansen stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gunn is looking to clinch but Hansen is avoiding it.
Hansen blocks a head kick by Gunn.
Hansen fails to land the takedown.

Hansen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Hansen is working for a submission of some sort.
Hansen is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gunn!

Hansen breaks from Gunn's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Hansen controlling his opponent.
Hansen landing strikes from the mount.
Hansen lands a big elbow.
Hansen postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gunn looks a forlorn figure.
Hansen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hansen has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gunn's face.
Gunn is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hansen avoids the attempt from Gunn to control.
Hansen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Gunn defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Hansen.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Hansen looking to secure an arm triangle but Gunn defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harrison Hansen dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Hansen avoids a punch combination nicely.

Hansen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gunn was covering up waiting for the punch and Hansen finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Hansen stands up and waves to Gunn to follow him.
Gunn wants to clinch.
A swing and a miss from Gunn.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hansen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gunn tries to avoid it but Hansen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gunn to the ground. Gunn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hansen moves away from the strike by Gunn.
Hansen takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Gunn looks to land a body kick but Hansen moved away.
Gunn misses with a few strikes there.
Hansen dives in and grabs Gunn's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gunn pushes down on Hansen's head and hops out.
Gunn fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Gunn tries to clinch but Hansen is having none of it.

Hansen scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Hansen decides to stand up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gunn is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hansen defends well.

Hansen cracks Gunn with a solid left hand.
Harrison Hansen has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hansen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hansen fails with a takedown attempt.
Tomas Gunn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Harrison Hansen.
Nice defenses there by Hansen.

Hansen takes the fight into the clinch.

Hansen has clasped his hands together around Gunn's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Gunn regains half guard.

Hansen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hansen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harrison Hansen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Hansen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gunn is looking for a sweep.
Hansen blocks the strikes from Gunn.

Hansen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gunn, who protects the arm well.
Hansen controls the position.
Gunn struggling a bit here.
Gunn tries to escape but Hansen is in control.

Hansen tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hansen stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Hansen's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Hansen duly obliges.
Hansen moves out of range as Gunn strikes.
Hansen shoots in looking for a takedown but Gunn manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hansen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Hansen rushes Gunn and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Hansen pulls guard successfully.
Gunn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gunn trying to control but Hansen is working from the bottom.

Hansen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gunn is one step ahead there.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hansen holds on and takes a little breather.

Hansen has his hands on Gunn's head, controlling the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hansen moves into the clinch.

Hansen changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gunn fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Gunn tries to clinch but Hansen is having none of it.
Hansen throws a series of strikes that have Gunn backpedaling.

Gunn throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hansen.
Hansen takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Hansen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gunn swivels and escapes.
Tomas Gunn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Harrison Hansen.

Gunn is desperately trying to improve his position but Hansen has a good base and remains in mount.

Hansen avoids the attempt from Gunn to control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hansen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Gunn is surviving well by controlling Hansen's body position as best he can.

Harrison Hansen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hansen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
