PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juan Alveraz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Josh Williams was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Alveraz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Josh Williams!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Williams showed some decent athleticism there.
Williams stops Alveraz from getting back to his feet.
Alveraz is trying is best to control the position here.
Alveraz wants to get back to full guard.
Williams thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Alveraz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Alveraz.
Williams pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Alveraz is keeping the position for now.

Alveraz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Williams!
Alveraz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Alveraz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Juan Alveraz.

Williams shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Williams swings around for an armbar but Alveraz sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Williams's guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Alveraz will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Williams enables Alveraz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Williams manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

We're going to have a standup here because Juan Alveraz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Alveraz is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Williams reverses the position - he's now on top in Alveraz's guard.
Josh Williams has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Williams drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Alveraz dives on top into guard.
Alveraz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Alveraz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Williams is trying to hold Alveraz in close to prevent damage but Alveraz has managed to pass into half guard.

Alveraz feints and as Williams raises his hands in defense, Alveraz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Williams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alveraz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
