PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dimas Suryadi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Suryadi has chosen Dragging Dead Bodies in Blue Bags Up Really Long Hills as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dimas Suryadi!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Suryadi dives in and scores a takedown into King's guard.
King trying to keep a closed guard but Suryadi is proving a slippery customer.
Suryadi trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Suryadi is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Suryadi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Suryadi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
King keeping moving, preventing Suryadi from controlling successfully.

Dimas Suryadi has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Suryadi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
King has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Suryadi is working away from the top position though.
King is pressing down on Suryadi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

King escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Suryadi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Suryadi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as King works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
King controls Suryadi momentarily but Suryadi frees himself.
King keeping full guard, as Suryadi tries to pass.
Suryadi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Suryadi with a flurry of punches that miss.
Suryadi throwing strikes but missing.
Suryadi is in close to King's body, working some short punches and elbows.
King not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Suryadi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. King is keeping the position for now.
Suryadi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

King will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

King really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Suryadi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Suryadi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Suryadi connects with a couple of short punches.

King working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Suryadi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Suryadi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Suryadi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Suryadi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Suryadi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Suryadi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says King as he avoids it easily.

King tries to sprawl but Suryadi drives through with a takedown into half guard.
King is trying to control but can't.
King desperately trying to maintain half guard.
King is looking for a sweep. Suryadi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Suryadi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ryan King just wasn't active enough.
Suryadi with a poor takedown
and King counters with a right hand to the body.
Ryan King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dimas Suryadi.
Suryadi closes this distance looking for a takedown but King circles away.
Suryadi dives in and grabs King's left leg, looking for a takedown. King pushes down on Suryadi's head and hops out.
Suryadi has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Dimas Suryadi has been cut.

Suryadi doesn't succeed with the takedown
and King cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
King misses with a series of wild punches.
Suryadi shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Suryadi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Suryadi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has King pinned against the cage. King gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Ryan King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Suryadi fails to land the takedown.
King tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Suryadi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A punch combination from King misses.
Suryadi fails with the takedown.
King tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
King tries to land a front kick but Suryadi steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Suryadi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has King pinned against the cage. King gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
King throws a right and a left that both miss.
Suryadi closes the distance and clinches up with King, looking for a takedown. Suryadi pushes King against the cage but King circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Suryadi fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Suryadi is breathing heavily.

Suryadi feints and as King raises his hands in defense, Suryadi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

King is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Suryadi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ryan King.

Suryadi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. King did well to prevent Suryadi getting side control.
Suryadi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Suryadi is thwarting King's attempts to control the position.
King wants to improve his position but Suryadi is controlling well.
King is not content to let Suryadi control the position.
King is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Suryadi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Suryadi's back!
Suryadi is trying to get back to his feet but King has full control of the position and if anything, Suryadi has just worked his way into a worse spot.

King has got one arm under Suryadi's chin. This could be trouble... Suryadi trying to control the other hand but King gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Suryadi has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ryan King!
A less than humble Ryan King misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
