Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derick Max (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Vortex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Derick Max!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Vortex!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Max fails with the takedown

and Vortex counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Vortex.
Max wants to stand up but Vortex is controlling him.
Max being controlled here, momentarily.
Vortex stopping the sweep attempt from Max.
Max could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Max is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Vortex controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vortex looking to pass the guard.
Vortex throwing strikes from guard but Max blocks nicely.
Max not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Vortex sitting in guard, not really doing much.

John Vortex has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Max misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Vortex closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Max to the mat! Max manages to get full guard.
Vortex is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Max working a defensive guard here.
Vortex really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Max. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Max looking to hit a scissor sweep but Vortex is one step ahead there.
Vortex not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

John Vortex has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Vortex looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Max wants to get back to his feet but Vortex is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Vortex is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vortex must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Vortex hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Vortex fails with a takedown attempt.

Vortex throws a lazy right hand but Max sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Vortex checks a leg kick.
Max gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Vortex counters with a single leg into guard. Max didn't expect that.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Derick Max. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vortex is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Max is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Max is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vortex tries to free his leg and advance position but Max is retaining full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vortex sitting in guard here, content to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Vortex dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Max gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Vortex loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Max pushes a forearm under Vortex's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Vortex is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Derick Max!
