PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Geisbert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien Duval (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Stephen Geisbert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Damien Duval!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duval moves into range and connects with a jab.

Duval clinches up against the cage.
Geisbert tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Duval just stands there and leans against the cage.
Geisbert misses with the head strike.
Geisbert lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Duval blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Duval breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Geisbert throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Duval was covering up waiting for the punch and Geisbert finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Duval manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Geisbert manages to get himself to full guard.
Duval wants to control from the top but Geisbert keeps moving.

Duval changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Geisbert looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Duval looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.

Geisbert wants to control but Duval postures up.

Duval is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Geisbert will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
It looks like Duval might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Duval working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Geisbert managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Duval.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Geisbert doesn't manage to clinch there - Duval circles away.

Duval shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Duval takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Duval is nestled in close to Geisbert, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Geisbert is trying to maintain the position but Duval is very close to passing his half guard.

Duval darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Duval is taking a breather. Geisbert says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Duval is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Damien Duval comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Duval has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
