PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between GI Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Henry Irons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, GI Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Henry Irons!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Irons fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Joe scores with a jab. Irons acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Irons scores a takedown into full mount!
Joe is trying to escape the mount but Irons keeps good control and instead manages to take Joe's back.
Joe tries to escape but Irons has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Joe is keeping busy.
Joe looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Irons is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Joe is defending well though. Irons let's go of the attempt for now.
Irons doesn't have the hooks in and Joe manages to turn into his guard.

Irons had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Joe is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Irons Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Joe's back instead.

Irons keeps control of the position as Joe tries to break free.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Joe staying busy and making it hard for Irons to control.
Irons controlling the position well here. Joe rolled but Irons kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Joe defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Irons's arms.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Irons's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Joe tries to roll but Irons sticks to his back.

Joe controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Joe manages to reverse the position and now he's in Irons's guard. Nice work there by Joe.
Joe trying to stand up but can't free himself from Irons's guard.
Irons is trying to control the position but Joe postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Joe lands with a nice body punch.
Irons shoots in looking for a takedown. Joe tries to sprawl out of it but Irons keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Joe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Irons uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Joe.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fight stays on the outside here - Irons looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Joe stuffs the takedown attempt from Irons. Irons gets slowly back to his feet.
GI Joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Henry Irons.
Joe looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Henry Irons dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Joe throws the left hand but Irons avoids the punch easily.
Irons uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Joe.
Joe looks to land a combination but Irons avoids it well.
Joe slow jab from Irons misses its intended target.
Irons fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Joe.
Irons fails with an attempt to clinch.
Irons staying out of range there.
Irons bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Irons closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Irons with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Irons connects with a nice short shot to Joe's temple.

Irons wants to work for an arm triangle but Joe is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Irons content to control rather than advance.

Irons is looking for a kimura here.
Irons wants to take a breather but Joe is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Irons thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Irons works his way into side control.
Irons throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Irons moves into full mount!
Irons looking to control and managing it successfully.

Irons with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joe has given up his back. Will we see Irons going for some submissions?

Irons has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Joe is in real trouble here. Irons gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Joe is tapping out! Irons wins by rear naked choke!
