The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua just misses with a punch to the body.

Rua with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Scalabrine to score with a decent uppercut.

Scalabrine goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Scalabrine shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Rua eats them both and turns towards Scalabrine to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Rua dodges the punch combination from Scalabrine.
Scalabrine throws a head kick that Rua semi-blocks.

Jack Scalabrine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Scalabrine lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Scalabrine tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rua paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Scalabrine tests Rua's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Rua moves in looking to clinch but Scalabrine pushes him off.
Scalabrine is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Rua changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Scalabrine looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Rua is staying tight to Scalabrine's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Scalabrine really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rua. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rua is looking to take a break and control but Scalabrine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
