PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Axe Rezo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Erikson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erikson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by "Float on easy". The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Axe Rezo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Erikson!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rezo tries to close the distance and clinch but Erikson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rezo shoots for a takedown but Erikson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rezo throws a right and a left that both miss.

Erikson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rezo, pushing him back against the cage.
Rezo goes for a takedown attempt but Erikson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rezo closes the distance but Erikson moves to the side

and Erikson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Erikson works over Rezo with some ground and pound from guard.
Erikson is looking to work some ground and pound but Rezo has wrist control.
Erikson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jay Erikson has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Rezo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Erikson's waist but Erikson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rezo off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Axe Rezo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Erikson moves into the clinch.

Erikson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Erikson closes the distance and clinches.
Rezo changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Erikson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Rezo tries for a takedown but Erikson circles away easily

and Erikson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Erikson.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Erikson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rezo is breathing heavily.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jay Erikson was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Rezo shoots in looking for a takedown but Erikson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rezo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Rezo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rezo misses with a takedown

and Erikson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Erikson has picked Rezo up - he's going for a ride! Erikson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Erikson content to control rather than advance.
Rezo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Erikson on the ground.
Erikson works his way into full mount!
Erikson lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Erikson lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Rezo hang on?
Erikson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rezo has left one of his arms exposed and Erikson doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Rezo screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jay Erikson!
Jay Erikson took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
