PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Iezaih Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jo Jo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jo has chosen Set You Free as his entrance music. Jo Jo struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 146.7lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Iezaih Morgan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jo Jo!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Josh West and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morgan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jo shoots for a takedown but Morgan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A head kick misses from Morgan.
Jo shoots and misses
and Morgan counters with a three punch combo that has Jo backing up. Jo nods at Morgan to acknowledge the strikes.
Jo fails with a takedown attempt.
Iezaih Morgan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jo Jo.
Jo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Morgan as he jumps to the side.
Morgan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Morgan closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Jo avoids the head kick by Morgan.
Jo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Morgan's waist but Morgan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jo off to one side.

That's one minute gone in the round.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jo.
Morgan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Morgan is looking to clinch but Jo is avoiding it.
Morgan works over Jo's head and body with a nice combination.
Morgan throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jo on the side of the head.

and Morgan counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Morgan fails to land with a series of punches.
Morgan tries to clinch but Jo is having none of it.

Morgan is trying to break free.
Jo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Morgan pulls his leg out and moves away.

Morgan lands with a nice combination. Jo backs away looking to recover.
Jo has his takedown stuffed
and Morgan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Morgan throws out a powerful jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Morgan throws a combination. Jo tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Morgan lands a nice hook to Jo's body. Jo takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Jo walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Jo takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Morgan tries to close the distance and clinch but Jo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

letting Morgan counter with a right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Morgan throws a low kick but it's checked well by Jo.
Jo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Morgan tries to avoid it but Jo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Morgan to the ground. Morgan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Morgan throws a right and a left that Jo avoids nicely.
Horrible takedown by Jo or perhaps it was just good defense by Morgan which made him look bad.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Morgan.
Jo is letting Morgan control him for a moment.
Jo is trying to control Morgan's posture but Morgan avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Morgan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Morgan wants to stand but Jo has his arm trapped.
Morgan tries to get to his feet but Jo is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Morgan in his guard.
Morgan tries to stand but Jo is controlling from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Morgan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Morgan looks to land a combination but Jo avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Iezaih Morgan dominated that round.

Morgan rushes Jo and presses him up against the cage.
Morgan prevents the takedown attempt.
Morgan is trying to push Jo away but Jo has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Morgan is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Morgan decides to pull guard.

Jo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Jo gets to his feet. Morgan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Morgan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jo was covering up waiting for the punch and Morgan finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Jo wants to sweep but no luck.
Morgan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Morgan wants to control from the top but Jo keeps moving.

Morgan advances to half guard.

Jo looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Jo is trying to control but can't.

Jo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Morgan pulls his head out easily.
Jo wants to control but Morgan is keeping busy.

Jo looking for submissions off his back.
Jo is trying to control but can't.

Morgan tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Jo is looking to control Morgan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jo avoid being mounted?
Morgan seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Morgan wants to free his trapped foot but Jo is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Jo wants to control but Morgan is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Morgan wants to get back to his feet.

Jo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Morgan pulls his head out easily.
Jo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Morgan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Morgan is posturing up here but Jo has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Morgan tries to roll out but it's too tight and Morgan has to tap! Slick submission there by Jo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jo Jo!
A relieved looking Jo Jo thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
