Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leon Benson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Angelo McDonald!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Columbo Gatti and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonald closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Benson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
A head punch blocked on the inside by McDonald.
McDonald's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Benson is trying to break the clinch but McDonald has him pressed against the cage.
Benson is looking to break free of the clinch but McDonald has double underhooks.
McDonald with an attempt at a knee that misses.
McDonald blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Benson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
McDonald jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Benson walks away with a smile on his face. McDonald gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
McDonald ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
That's one minute gone in the round.
McDonald has a takedown stuffed.
Benson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Leon Benson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Angelo McDonald.
Benson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
McDonald slips under a jab.
McDonald tries to clinch but Benson is having none of it.
Benson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows McDonald to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
McDonald works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Benson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Benson tries to get out of the position.
McDonald decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Benson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Leon Benson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Benson tests McDonald's chin there with a solid looking shot.
McDonald tries to clinch up.
Benson lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Benson throws a leg kick but McDonald moved away.
Leon Benson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Benson misses with a straight right.
McDonald takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
A head kick misses from McDonald.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
McDonald blocks a punch to the side of the head.
McDonald works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Benson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McDonald on the ground.
McDonald wants to control from the top but Benson keeps moving.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
McDonald is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Leon Benson just wasn't active enough.
McDonald pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
McDonald shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Benson but Benson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Benson misses with a left hand
and McDonald counters with a single leg into guard. Benson didn't expect that.
Benson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McDonald controls the pace.
Benson is breathing heavily.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
McDonald preventing the sweep.
McDonald drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. McDonald seems to have locked his on tight now - Benson screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for McDonald, as he picks up the win!
