PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Diego Santana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Donovan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santana comes to the cage accompanied by Apaga mais não bate( Jiu-jitsu ). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jason Donovan enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Santana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Donovan!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santana chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Donovan can pounce on him.
Donovan swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Donovan throws a head kick but Santana moves out of range.
Santana uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Donovan.
Donovan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Santana shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Donovan napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Santana creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Donovan sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Santana decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Santana is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Donovan's half guard.
Donovan is trying to control but can't.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well, if Santana is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Santana frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Donovan is desperately trying to improve his position but Santana has a good base and remains in mount.
Santana takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Donovan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Santana swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Donovan is now in Santana's guard. A big mistake from Santana there, giving up the dominant position!

Donovan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Santana is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Donovan, into his guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Santana gets to his feet - Donovan follows without any prompting.
Donovan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Jason Donovan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Santana rushes Donovan and presses him up against the cage.

Santana jumps guard and drags Donovan to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santana is looking to stand up but Donovan isn't so interested in that idea.
Donovan won't allow Santana to sweep him here.

Donovan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santana swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Donovan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Santana, who protects the arm well.
Santana regains half guard.

Donovan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Santana wants to improve his position but Donovan is controlling well.

Santana makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Santana.
Donovan slips nicely into half guard.
Santana is not content to let Donovan control the position.
Santana wants to get back to his feet.

Donovan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Santana has managed to free his arm - good work.

Donovan is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Santana is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santana darts in and clinches Donovan up against the cage.
Donovan tries to land knees in the clinch but Santana avoids the damage to the body.

Santana manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Santana escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Donovan isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Santana stacks Donovan on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Santana!

Santana is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Donovan has escaped the position, nice work there.

Santana doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Santana is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Donovan!

Santana is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Donovan is defending well though. Santana let's go of the attempt for now.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Santana, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
